Next Pack Suggestions

Postby will-i-am on Sat Feb 06, 2010 7:21 am

Hey, peeps! Just to get a general idea on what our next pack should be, I've started this thread so you guys can vote on whether or not we should go with the Best of 2000's or Decade's Pack for our next pack, or try to get the long anticipated FunkyMix started (finally!), or if we should go with a totally different approach and try something new. If you want something new, be sure to state more or less what you'd like to see happen with the next pack.

Oh, and if any of you guys would want the next pack to have some sort of judging portion to it, since we haven't done anything that's been judged since CHEESEMIX 5, say something about it as well.

So, vote below what you'd want to see happen in the hopefully very near future.

1. Decade's Pack
2. FunkyMix
3. Totally rad new idea, duuude!!

Discuss! :)

Judged of course.

Ok I'm not gonna lie. I'm a bit of a toss up between Funky and Decade. For funky, it would be nice to step some stuff just cause funky is my stepping forte. \o/ Otherwise, I would choose Decade cause I already got great assets ready to be sent for that one. So umm yeah.

I'm going with the Decade Pack.

Yeah, I've already been planning stuff for the Decade's Pack, too, although I'd really like to see FunkyMix go underway soon.

I think we should just wait until the Decade's Pack is over with...and then RIGHT AFTER we make sure we start FunkyMix, haha. XD

Decade. It's the one and only time to really celebrate it, tbh. Besides, I'm more prepared for it than I am FunkyMix.

I'll agree with #Infinity about the decade pack.

Why not do BOTH.

FunkyMix & Decade Mix. Can have two contests going at the same time, although they should be two separate packs and probably two separate contests.

Not sure if this will work, but they are both good ideas for simfile packs, I may even enter Funky Mix.

It's hard to prepare for and focus on two contests at once unless the deadlines are dragged out quite a bit, and that's usually something that kills most people's attention throughout the course. I think it would be best for FunkyMix to simply take place right after "00's Mix" (continuing the tradition of 80's Mix and 90's Mix).

I agree, the mixes should be separate.

Still thinking about whether or not this next pack should have a judged portion to it. I'm in for it, but we'd have to arrange some things around and get official judges and such, unless we decide to go for a strictly public review only judged bracket, which would be pretty interesting. I think the whole concept of having official judges is kinda flawed, anyway, especially in times where activity is very minimal and it would be hard to get people really interested in spending their time judging a group of files using narrow guidelines.

Post your thoughts about any judging we may or may not have in the next pack, suggestions, etc. I'm interested in hearing them. ;)

1. Participants ONLY will be eligible to vote.
2. Files will be randomly paired up.
3. Every 3 days all participants will be able to vote on their favorite files of the pair, winner moves on to the next round, no judging requirements or guidelines (democracy wins). If you don't vote, you miss out, feel free to vote for your own file. Votes will be DUE by Wednesday and Saturday (no updates on Sunday), files going to the next round will be announced Monday and Thursday.
4. In case of a tie, if you voted for your own file your file will lose, if both files were voted for by their creator then a solid tie exists and both files move on.
5. Vote in as many pairs as you desire.
6. Winners will be paired up until 4 files are left.
7. At this point one week will be given for all participants to give a detailed consideration (100 point scale*) of these 4 files, file with the highest score wins.

*The 100 point scale should be based on the usual criteria, and have guidelines (sync, steps, graphics, etc).

Randomly pairing up files is just what happened in OSC 1.5, and I really don't think it's a fair way to judge the outcome of a simfile competition because so much of it involves chance and therefore doesn't rank all the files accordingly. What if the two most popular files were paired up at the beginning? This isn't the Survivor Max Contest that was soley-intended for fun and to simply engage the participants in the competition itself.

Oh, that's actually a really cool idea. I would've never thought of brining judges in only for the final round.

Everything there sounds great, but I have one suggestion. Instead of having a head-on battle between just 2 files for every round, I think we should instead widen it to 3 or 4 files for each round bracket, with the top 2 files moving on. Why I want to do this is because I would rather not have us experience the same problem that happened in BEST-mix #1.5, where the 2 best files (imo), ARTILLERY & CHOU!, were paired up on the very first round.

Maybe we could do a preliminary round where all files would be in one bracket from the very beginning and people would vote for as many files as they like, one vote equal to one point. The results would be completely private - the public would never see them until the very end of the competition in order to prevent biased votes based on preliminary scores - and only the people who were running the competition would know which files received the most preliminary votes, and which received the least.

Then I, or whoever it is hosting the pack, would pair up the files according to how well they did in the preliminary round. The file that did the best in the prelims would be paired with the file that did the worst, and the middle files that did just okay would be paired together. And if we decide to go for 3 or 4 files per each round, then say the very best file would be going against the worst file and the two middle files if there are 4 files, or one of the two middle files if there are 3.

Just suggestions, I actually didn't put much thought into it, just tried to think of a fair / quick / different way to do a simfile competition.

Then how about at the end when the top 4 files are announced, there can be a vote for the top 2 of all the losing simfiles, the top 2 losers will compete with the top 4 winners. That should balance out what you just described...
