Writing a song for this. Why? Because I'm that bloody Web 3.7.

Oh wait, scratch that, I've found the Ridge Racer 6 OST.

The restrictions. I barely had enough time to put something together for BM2, and I might have time to make at the very most one file with all the necessary elements not be disqualified. So I haven't got time to sit around and force myself to work into "arbitrary" (in terms of what I want to do) restrictions.

That, and I still haven't found a worth cause to follow up acapella and Creative Commons. :p

To be honest, I don't really see what's so bad about the restrictions, but there you go.

What restrictions are you referring to? Rules? or the length of time to work on the files?

I haven't changed the main rules almost at all since BEST-mix 1, and it hasn't seemed restrictive to me; but again, I'm not sure what you're referring to. ;)

He's probably just trying to rant about being in last place, don't mind Welly, your rules seem fair as usual.

Did I ever say anything about them not being fair? No Hellrazor, I didn't. Read them again. You'll see I don't actually make any sort of claim that the rules are unfair.

Did I even imply I was potentially going to come last again? No Hellrazor, I didn't. Read them again. You'll see I don't imply that either. I've entered competitions here with the intention of being last. I've even entered competitions here with the intention of being fined points so that a bottom-5 finish is nearly inevitable. And I regularly enter files to music which is so crap they might get played out of curiosity once before being sent to the Recycle Bin. These are hardly actions of somebody who only gives a crap about winning.

If I actually wanted to have a high finish I would enter stuff that might actually get a few points from the public, most of whom seem to be rabid fanboys who automatically zero anything that isn't Japanese, trance or an 8 difficulty on hard. Considering how many people I beat in BM1 with a song with no music at all, and my performance in BM2 with a file that wasn't even finished, I don't need to be going around winning competitions to massage my ego and prove to unspecified portions of the internet that I actually know stuff about making files.

And before anyone tries to accuse me of arrogance, I'm still yet to ever say I'm going to win/finish top 5% of any competition ever. If I entered to win, I wouldn't enter any of the stuff I do.

Actually back on topic, and for BlueSS's benefit, what I personally have "issues" with in regard to the rules are:

1) DDR only. I've already put my case for not having this rule in these competitions too many times, but it's not my competition and if I want to enter I have to follow your rules and deal with it. That's fine, except anything I have in progress will then get me disqualified, and I refuse to strip the "non-DDR" elements out of these just to have them conform with the rules. So I have to start afresh, which leads to...

2) Time to work on them - I have three weeks to make a file. That's more than adequate for 99% of the entrants, but not for me. I'm not expecting a rule change just so I can enter, but I have way too much going on outside to start something from scratch in that time. So that's out.

3) Banners. I don't do 256x80 now, I do 300x100. It's more compatible with different themes. Given that even if I already had something in progress, I'd have to redo the banner for that, it's more time that I have to waste when I could be making a chart.

4) Public vote - It will annoy me, but having said that it's not a reason for me not to enter, but I'm still yet to see a satisfactory solution to. Heck, even taking the public out entirely just gives people reason to complain. It's certainly not a reason for me to pull out, however, because I haven't had a solution that is guaranteed to work better turned down.

Unlike Hellrazor's implications, I actually feel that BM has always run extremely well and has (almost) always been competently judged thanks to the fact that BlueSS has picked them on merit. What spoils BM in the main, like most tournaments, is the idiots that come in and ruin the public vote by being narrow-minded, childish and most of all not actually doing as they are told. And how much of this do I expect you to fix, or even consider fixing it? None of it. The time is fair, the reasons for using the banner size has a very strong argument, and instead of being a whiny bich and not shutting up until I can force rule changes just to suit me - unlike some users on this site have done (and no I'm not referring to anyone who has so far posted in this thread) - I will read the rules, and go and do something else.

What if it had been a September start? I probably would have found something, entered it, annoyed the public vote for not making something Japanese/8 feet/keyboard enough, and been smugly satisfied with just how middle-placed my finish is given what I offered. Instead this post is now far longer than it should have been and I've wasted more time I could have spent on that "something else" I wanted to be doing.

Damn, why did I change my entry from Nack5?

All I said was probably, did you have a rough day today, you're usually much more light-hearted. Just be like me and don't enter this contest and for the record your files have never made it to my recycle bin, even though 30-50% (sometimes 80%) of files from most packs I download end up in my bin, I especially like your Space file.

Wellian wrote:8 difficulty on hard

That has actually been true for every single BEST-mix winner. VODKA, Time To Move, and GIRLFRIEND were all 8 footers on heavy. I don't think it's really much of a problem, but I have noticed it and it does get kind of annoying seeing the majority of the files getting an 8 difficulty rating nowadays. If I do participate, my file will probably be an 8 footer, so I guess I'm not really helping out in that area.

Maybe people don't realize that 9 foot charts really don't have to be all that difficult. You just need a little voltage in a 140 bpm song, or a little stream in a 180 bpm song for the 9 foot rating to fit. It's just the risk factor of giving a chart a 9, and then the amount of people complaining that ''oh, this is too easy to be a 9'', or ''this is just too hard for DDR''. INSPIRATION seemed to luck out though, since no one really cared if it was really an 8 or 9 since the file was good enough for 1st anyway.

But yeah, I get your what points you mentioned there, and as always, I'm in full support for somewhat of a change. I just think it's a little too late for that change to take place, after many people who used to support and fuel the community have moved on to other things.

Just added Anything Goes II yesterday and this is out already... Not that I'm complaining, keep the good simfiles coming.
Alright loaded this up, just 16 files (well one worthless Barbie Girl file so 15 really), first thought is I thought this was supposed to be an anonymous competition, what's with the CDTITLES everyone?
